The Miracle of Spring
Springtime is glorious--
The season of rebirth,
Beauty all around us.
Everywhere on earth
Everything is awakening.
Lavishly spring has arrived,
On earth all has come alive.
The robins sing, the tulips bloom.
On a gentle breeze the butterflies glide.
Everything is revived,
From the hills and valleys
To the velvety grass between my toes.
It seems in the twinkle of an eye
A brand new sky has appeared.
With its April showers we see the May flowers.
This is all God’s creation you see.
He’s willing to share it all with you and me.

Spring Is Coming
This winter was harsh and cold.
Storm after storm the snow came down.
To go out one needed boots, hats and gloves,
Scarves, hooded jackets and fur lined coats--
Maybe not all at the same time,
But at least two most of the time.
The wind blew and blew until
My American flag shredded to pieces.
The bitter cold on my hands and face
Made my skin look like fish scales.
No matter how much lotion I used,
The results were always the same,
More cold and more wind.
The next day would be just as bad as the day before.
My thoughts of spring probably helped best.
When I thought I had seen enough snow,
Could not wait for green grass to grow
And flowers appear by my front door.
When on February 3rd I saw two robins
Sitting on my railing,
I sure thought that spring was here.
I’m sorry to say: “The two robins have disappeared.”
Now that spring officially arrives today at 8:20 p.m.,
Maybe the crocus and daffodils
Will peak their heads above the snow.
If they could speak, I bet I know what they would say:
“Thank God . It’s finally Spring.”
Stop Look and Listen
The flowers saying:
“Are you not going to take time to
Stop and enjoy our sweet fragrance?”
The birds; “When are you going to listen
To our sweet refrains
While watching the rippling stream and
The coming of a new day?”
The blue bird saying:” Did you see me
Flash the colors on the wing?”
The rainbow :
“Have you seen me stretch across the sky?”
While the crickets a new song
They sing as evening gets near.
Oh! Did you find time
To say to someone today: “I love you?”
Hurry before another day gets by.
The big beautiful sunset when day is done:
“Did you spend time looking at it?”
As night was falling,
“Did you look at the man in the moon?
Did you remember to look for the Big Dipper?”
When you went to bed :
“Did you see the moon beams on your window sill?”
And as you fell asleep,
“Did you count your blessings instead of sheep?”

I Am A Soldier
In Iraq I find myself.
So young I had to go.
Family and friends
All left behind.
A call to duty, I had to go.
Once in Iraq as a soldier I must stand
Facing the danger day by day.
In my Hummer I must ride
Along my buddies driving their tanks,
Our destination fifty miles away.
Not knowing if the enemy
Has another car bomb
Ready to blow up,
We begin to feel safer
With little children all around.
The enemy doesn’t care.
Killing children as well as grown-ups
Is a thrill for them as long as they can kill us.
A few more yards down the road,
Sure enough a car bomb explodes.
Killing three American soldiers
And wounding two others,
Some little children lost their life
While many others were hurt.
Me, in my Hummer, I was spared again .
But who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Blood all over my uniform,
Trying to help my wounded comrades,
A call for an ambulance,
It seems like eternity before help arrives.
Getting my buddies to a hospital
was my first concern.
One lost a leg, another an arm.
Our mission had to be scrubbed.
We’ll try again perhaps with more success.
Oh ! The ravage of war,
One can only wonder
If it wouldn’t be better
To all get along,
Trying to understand
Just maybe, maybe some day
We can all agree
To lay down our arms,
Live peacefully
Side by side.
Try to live in harmony
All of us, You and Me--
The way God intended for us to
When He created this beautiful place,
This place we call Earth.
